Biodiversity, Bioeconomy and Bioscience:
Sustainable Agriculture for the 21st Century
A chance for researchers to build their network with the aim of increasing successful funding applications from Wales
Tuesday 7 - Thursday 9 December 2021
With strengths in natural sciences, the environment, engineering and biosciences, research in the three Research Networks Wales aligns strongly with Horizon Europe research priorities and funding calls, as well as those for Welsh Government.
This joint network event is designed to bring together academics from across a variety of disciplines in all the Welsh HEI’s to debate and shape potential future research collaborations. Several funding opportunities around the topic are currently available, particularly for Horizon Europe Cluster 6 Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment as well as the recently announced EPSRC/BBSRC/ESRC call Build a network to research sustainable agri-food for net zero and Defra's recently launched competitions of their new Industry-led R&D Partnerships fund.
By participating, you will meet researchers from other organisations and disciplines, widen your network and broaden the opportunity for funding bids.
Date: Tuesday 7 - Thursday 9 December 2021

AgriFood is a key industrial sector for most of Wales. With a large number of companies that could benefit from academic advances, collaboration and translation, the event will be open to all researchers in Welsh HEIs, as well as industry groups and companies and other related organisations working in this area.
Taking place over three days, this virtual conference will provide an opportunity to hear from leading experts and researchers in Welsh HEI's. Keynote speakers will describe the challenges and opportunities for research as we move to Zero Carbon economy.
And for early career researchers, we are collaborating with Learned Society Wales who will be running sessions on growing your Network and developing and writing funding bids.
The programme will have a different focus on each day, enabling participants to attend those of most interest. Topics to be covered will include -
- Food Chain Resilience
- Digital Rural Communities
- Sustainable Futures
The full programme will be available here in due course.
Small Pot Collaboration Fund
Three awards of up to £1500 are available towards the organisation and facilities costs for meetings arranged to enable collaboration with other Welsh Universities on a potential research topic related to the Network. Further information will be provided at the Conference.
Attendance at the conference is free of charge and registration will be open shortly.
