The Distinguished Lecture Series 2016 will be delivered by Dr. Wyn Meredith, Director of Compound Semi-Conductor (CSC), who will present an engaging talk on 'Atoms to Applications for Compound Semi - Conductors.' The talk will highlight the emerging opportunities and activities currently harbored within South Wales with the intention to engage Wales as Europe’s fifth semiconductor industry cluster - the world’s first compound semiconductor cluster.
“Compound semiconductors are set to revolutionise 21st century technologies in the same way that their silicon based predecessors changed the way we have lived, worked and spent our leisure time over the last five decades.
Whilst the valleys south of San Francisco in California became the hub of early activities for silicon based technologies, several European regional semiconductor hubs have been established over the last 20 years (in Belgium, Germany, France and the Netherlands). We are poised to experience the next chapter of the semiconductor revolution, and there is tangible opportunity for South Wales to become a major global hub for compound semiconductor activities - ‘beyond silicon'
The talk will highlight the emerging opportunities and activities underway to realise South Wales as Europe’s fifth semiconductor industry cluster - the world’s first compound semiconductor cluster.”
